FAQs

When considering whether to install a Solar PV system to your home or business, etc etc

  • How many panels do I need?

The amount of panels you need depends on several factors including your annual electricity usage, your roof size, the orientation of the roof, the pitch (angle), and the amount of sunlight it gets.

  • Does my roof need to be south facing?

A south facing roof is always going to be the most efficient place to put your panels but we can also fit panels on East and West facing roofs to pick the sun up on the morning on the East, Mid-day on both arrays and the west facing roof in the late afternoon, early evening.

  • Will I need planning permission?

Domestic solar panel installations are normally covered under "permitted developments" and don't require planning permission. There are exceptions to this for example if you live in a listed building, a conservation area or an area of outstanding natural beauty.

  • How long will my solar panels last for?

Solar PV systems have no moving parts and have a very long life span. The panels should still be generating electricity for at least 25 years. The Inverter which is responsible for converting the DC electricity the panels generate into usable AC electricity should last for over 10 years.

  • How long does it take to install a Solar Panel System?

Many smaller domestic Solar Panel Installations should take no longer than two days to fit and commission. Scaffolding if needed will be erected a few days before.

  • What ongoing service and maintenance do solar panels require?

Solar Panel systems require very little maintenance and don't require servicing. Modern systems are often connected to the internet so you can see exactly what they're doing and will notify owners and installers of any issues.

Our Installation Process

Survey

Solar Panel systems can come in many different sizes and capacities and it's important that the design is customised to the customers roof and energy needs. An Initial telephone survey is always completed beforehand to scope out requirements.

Design

With so many products on the market, it's important to deal with an experienced designer otherwise you could end up with a system that's not compatible and doesn't work as intended. All of our designers have many years of experience ensuring the right design the first time.

Quote Acceptance

If you're happy, we're happy. Once we've received your acceptance of the quotation we'll get to work. We'll arrange an installation date, normally 6 weeks from quote acceptance and organise any permissions required for the installation.

DNO Permission

Any system that's going to be connected to the grid will need permission from the distributed Network Operator (DNO). Systems under 3.68kW can be notified post installation whilst anything higher will need pre-approval and works cannot begin until this has been completed.

Planning Permission

In most cases Solar panels can be installed under what's know as "Permitted Development rights". The only exceptions to this are if you live in a listed building, a block of flats or your property is in a conservation area.

Installation and Commissioning

The final part of the process is the installation and commissioning of the system. Once the system has been fully installed, it's turn on time. We'll set up your system and connect it to your internet so you can see exactly what's going on.
